"Disagree with bad review"
I would have to disagree with the negative review of the Opera. We just stayed there for the weekend. I have paid a lot more for a lot worse. I would compare it to an above average budget hotel. The key point is that you get what you pay for. This was very good value for a hotel right in the centre of Gothenburg. It could not be any more central so the rate is exceptional.
The staff were also exceptional. We were a very demanding party with one person in a wheelchair two young kids and another 6 people staying in the outskirts using this hotel as our central base. The staff bent over backwards to help us, they could not do enough for us. The hotel was clean, average decor but who cares, I was there to see the city not the wallpaper! The can do attitude of the staff (and everyone we came across) made our weekend. Breakfast was typically Swedish I'm sure. If you want a breakfast just like home what is the point of travelling.
We very nearly cancelled our booking due to the previous review, I am so glad we didn't. For a budget weekend, I have not stayed in anything better!
The Swedish people were amazing. To my shame, their English was so good, the worst we came across was 'fluent'. We should be ashamed of our language skills in the UK.
This is of course a major advantage as our swedish is a bit rusty. (Non-existent.)
If you don't want to splash out, stay in the Opera, value for money is the name of the game.
IF you want a good hotel in Glasgow, try the Milton (not Hilton but Milton, the owners name) Top notch, definitely NOT budget. Glasgow has the best shopping and culture in the UK outside London
